This blog post is a continuation of a previous post I wrote about earlier in the month. I’ve been working a lot lately with word templates and the Office Add-ins for Dynamics AX 2012. I must say, they are really neat to work with and I much prefer creating ad-hoc reports in excel and Sales Orders in word than in AX and SSRS now. So the first blog post, showed how to create a query and pull data into Microsoft word, then edit the word document and save it as a template for use later with any sales orders. Today I’m going to focus on how to generate the template from inside AX.
First, be sure that the document type for templates is in the list. Whatever file type you saved your document as, either a word doc or word template, that file extension needs to be in the list. Navigate to Organization Administration > Setup > Document Management > Document Management Parameters > File Types area. If the dotx or docx isn’t in the list, be sure to add it.

Now, this blog already assumes that you’ve done the steps in this blog. Be sure to review it before you continue.
Navigate to Open Sales Orders, select one, then choose the “generate from template” option.

Once this is selected, you will have your document template created in word with the Sales Order Information you selected in AX.
